I remember standing at the top of a mountain pass at sunset, with no clue where I'd pitch my tent. That's when it clicked: I didn't just love big days on bikes, I loved the uncertainty behind it all.
From a 25-day trip down the Tour Divide to credit-card tours across Europe, I'm always planning my next big adventure. I take any chance to explore Patagonia, from the Carretera Austral to the Lakes District and Monkey Puzzle trees.
At home on Vancouver Island, the obsession thrives. I constantly tinker with my setup, testing tire pressures, handlebar positions, and tiny details I'm probably never going to actually feel. I set out on uncomfortably long rides for no reason other than wanting to see if I can. And all too often I underbike, because railing something rowdy on the wrong bike is the best part of cycling.
When I'm not riding, I'm at Cedar Stand Coffee Company, doing freelance communications work, or writing for a handful of bike publications, including this one, where I recently stepped into the editor role.
